Ralph Bice Sustainability Centre & Wilderness Experience Project Advisory Committee
The Bice Experience will be named in honour of one of the Town’s prominent local citizens, Order of Canada Recipient, Mr. Ralph Bice. Overall, the Bice Experience Committee is looking to improve the economic status of Kearney, while contributing to the overall economy of Almaguin Highlands, by creating a destination for tourists and locals.
The Bice Experience Project is based on several linked themes- Amusement, Awareness, and Accomplishment. It will combine history, heritage, outdoor activities and environmental sustainability. It will also showcase green energy. The convenient location of Kearney, being located near the three access points to the northern entrance into Algonquin Park, serves as the ideal site for an outdoors Centre. The Business Plan will help create an Economic Development initiative that will be financially self-sustaining while adding approximately 40 seasonal and fulltime jobs, opportunities for businesses in Kearney and the surrounding areas. The Centre will attract new tourism to the area, cater to both the student population throughout the school year as well as promote the facility to businesses looking to conduct off-site meetings and enjoy team building exercises that the project can help facilitate. The First Nations and early European settlers will be featured prominently in this project.
Key to the success of the project is a concierge platform that will promote local accommodations, outfitters, restaurants, shops and other merchants to tourists.
